that it is inadvisable and dangerous to have a siding running down a public road; but even if a Flag Station were made the running would be restricted to five miles an hour as is done in many places elsewhere, there is no horse traffic to frighten, and a train at slow speed is no worse obstruction than a tram. The traffic down Salisbury Road is now very light, in fact practically nil, and it is not likely to increase to any extent under the circumstances. A glance at the map will readily show several ways of communication with Des Voeux Road, and if ever the siding became a real danger and a nuisance it would be easy to fence it, and provide crossings as desired over it. matter however is one which may be left open for discussion If the proposals of either Scheme 3 or 4 is sanctioned and need only be looked into from the financial aspect which will be
discussed later on.

The alternative schemes Nos. 2 & 4 which I now bring
forward is to place the station close to the important rearrange-
These are being con- ments of Gascoigne and Des Voeux Roads. structed to carry a trem àine which if provided will bring passengers to the station from out-laying districts. The plans are self explanatory and provides sufficiently for any expan- sion. By placing a pier for a ferry at the bend close to the Storn Water Outfall ready access is obtained from the Railway in A Scheme 3 by a back shunt for which we should charge

in Scheme 4 directly and alongside.

There is no need to discuss the details of the Goods
siding and arrangement of the Goods Yard because such arrange- mente would be common to any scheme albeit possibly at a greater inconvenience as regards 1 & 2 schemes and it only remains to
meet the objections which would arise to:
(a)
The lengthening of the ferry crossing.
(b)
The want of protection which might be felt by ferry's
making the pier.
